Acting VC, 15 Profs battle for UI Vice-chancellor Seat

Professor Babatunde Adebola Ekanola, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the university of Ibadan, has joined the Vice Chancellorship race of the institution.

Ekanola’s application is one of the 14 applications submitted at the close of the six-week advertisement for the position of Vice Chancellor of the university Touchaheart blog gathered on Wednesday.

The application our correspondent learnt, closed last Thursday.
This online media recalls that Ekanola, is the first indigene of Ibadan to occupy that position either as Acting or substantive Vice Chancellor since the establishment of the university in 1948.

Ekanola, a native of Aragba in Ayeye area in Ibadan North-West local government area, lectures in the faculty of Arts.

His appointment on November 30th 2020 for the period of six months became necessary due to failure of the university to appoint a substantive VC last year.

Touchaheart blog also learnt that the Premier university was engulfed in series of crises due to clashes and misunderstandings between various interest groups on how to appoint a substantive VC in the institution.

Others in the race include: Professor Kayode Oyebode Adebowale of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science; Professor Aderemi Raji-Oyelade of the Department of English, Faculty of Arts; Professor Adeyinka Abideen Aderinto of the Department of Sociology; Professor Emiola Oluwabunmi Olapade-Olaopa of the College of Medicine; Professor Temitope Alonge of the University College Hospital (UCH), Professor George Olusegun Ademowo of the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutic, Faculty of Basic Medical Science; Professor Kolawole Clement Olusegun Olaniran, Department of Teacher Education; Professor Ganiyu Adesola Aderounmu, Professor Ebenezer Farombi of Biochemistry, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Faweyinmi of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Rasaq Olatunde Kalilu of the department of Fine and Applied Arts, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Professor Anthony Kolawole, Professor Oladele Layiwola of the Institute of African Studies; Professor Nazeem Oluwafemi Mimiko of the department of International Relations, Obafemi Awolowo University, Professor Babatunde Salako.
