Gordon Chang: Xi Likely Driven to ‘Even More Belligerent Actions’

Touchaheart Nigeria reports that far east expert Gordon Chang urges the Biden administration to be on high alert amid “turmoil” at the top of China’s political structure.

“Everyone is quite anxious because there are a number of things going on, particularly inside China, that would lead Xi Jinping, the Chinese ruler, into even more hostile acts,”

Chang said on WABC 770 AM-“The N.Y.’s Cats Roundtable” on Sunday. “There appears to be unrest at the top of China’s political establishment. This is bad news for everyone in the region.”

While everyone should be on high alert, Chang told host John Catsimatidis that “statements made by the deputy Chinese Air Force commander that Beijing would be willing to meet the US ‘in the skies'” should not surprise anyone.

“In other words, he’s talking about a nuclear arms race, possibly including the downing of American satellites,” Chang said. “Beijing’s remark is incredibly inflammatory, and it comes at a time when other occurrences and events are causing everyone to be alarmed.

“Everyone sort of perks up and notices what’s going on when a senior Chinese military leader says stuff like that.”

Chang pointed out that dozens of China Air Force flights over Taiwan are merely the beginning, not the end, of potential confrontations, especially given the country’s economic problems.

“Xi Jinping is dead set on doing things that will return China to a more state-dominated paradigm,” Chang concluded.

“Of course, this will have a negative impact on Chinese growth. This only adds to the Communist Party’s insecurity. This is beginning to resemble the Cultural Revolution, which occurred from 1966 to 1976 and was the most unusual period in Chinese history.”
