AGN Reacts To Chiwetalu Agu’s Arrest By Nigerian Army
The Nigerian Actors Guild has reacted to legendary actor Chiwetalu Agu’s detention.
Touchaheart Nigeria reports that Nigerian Army troops apprehended the actor for donning Biafra-style apparel.
He was apparently sharing food with the less fortunate while dressed in Biafran regalia when he was apprehended by government forces on Upper Iweka Road in Onitsha.
Two soldiers approached Agu and wrestled him to the ground before dragging him away.
The legendary actor was seized for inciting members of the public and soliciting support for the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, according to Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Army Public Relations (IPOB).
In a press conference, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, criticised the fact that Agu was seen donning Biafra regalia.
He pointed out that, given the country’s high degree of insecurity and the fact that the state is currently hot, Agu should have avoided wearing such apparel.
He did say, though, that the Guild is doing everything it can to have Chiwetalu Agu released.
“I’m not sure why he dressed in Biafra regalia. He is well aware that the State is hot.
“We’re in contact with military officials to see if he can be released.” We shall give it our all.
