This upmarket version of the 300-series Land Cruiser will be available in the United States next year, and it will include a new Ultra Luxury edition with a VIP rear-seat configuration.

It uses the same twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6 with 409 horsepower as the 300-series Land Cruiser and is more luxurious.

Although the Land Cruiser moniker is no longer available in the United States, Lexus is keeping the torch alive with the new LX600 for 2022. The newest LX is a spruced-up version of Toyota’s legendary SUV, with new exterior style and a ritzier interior, but the same gear below.

We can’t really argue with the company’s decision to make the Lexus the only version of the current 300-series model accessible in America, given how similar the previous Land Cruiser and LX versions were in pricing.

The LX600’s body-on-frame design hasn’t altered much, but it now rides on a new platform shared with the Tundra and Land Cruiser, which claims to save 441 pounds over the previous model. The only powertrain for now is a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V-6 engine with 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Four-wheel drive with a low range is standard once again.

On both counts, the figures outperformed the original naturally aspirated 5.7-liter V-8. A ten-speed automatic transmission is included as standard.

The new LX retains its blocky outline, but we like the more modern detailing, and the spindle grille is more integrated into the front-end design while staying imposing. The “L” insignia has been replaced with “LEXUS” lettering in the back. The F Sport edition comes with a blacked-out grille and 22-inch wheels, as well as a Torsen limited-slip differential in the back and modified damper tuning.

The approach and departure angles are the same as previously, according to Lexus, and the adjustable-height suspension has three levels. A Multi-Terrain Select system with several drive modes is available, as are various off-road camera perspectives, including a novel viewpoint that can display the ground beneath the back of the car.

Starting with the base trim, which has a two-row design that seats five, there are several other seating arrangements available. The Premium, Luxury, and F Sport variants have a three-row arrangement with seven seats, and the third row now folds flat in the floor, rather than folding up to the sides of the cargo compartment like the previous generation. There’s also a new Ultra Luxury model with a unique four-seat layout that includes two sumptuous chairs in the back that recline to 48 degrees and have a footrest.

The latest Lexus Interface software is used in a dual-screen infotainment layout, with a 12.3-inch touchscreen on top and a smaller 7.0-inch touchscreen on the bottom that handles the HVAC system and Multi-Terrain Select modes. A 8.0-inch digital gauge cluster is also included. Adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist are among the many driver-assistance systems that come standard.

The LX600 is expected to arrive in the United States in the first quarter of 2022, with a starting price of roughly $90,000 for the base model and a six-figure price for the Ultra Luxury version base model
