The eNaira is the result of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s years of study towards pushing the boundaries of the payments system in order to make financial transactions easier and more seamless for people from all walks of life.
Touchaheart Nigeria reports that the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, termed the launch as the first in Africa and one of the first in the world.
“Today, Mr President, you make history once again with the launch of the eNaira — the first in Africa and one of the first in the world,” Emefiele added.
“As you implement ground-breaking changes, Mr. President, there has been ongoing dispute about the true worth of the Naira.
“Rather than worrying about the exchange rate’s direction today, let us take a step back and look at how we got here in the first place.”
