The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, has spoken out on the raid on Justice Mary Odili’s residence, according to Touchaheart Nigeria.
Security personnel stormed into the Supreme Court justice’s Maitama apartment on Friday, according to Touchaheart Nigeria.
The EFCC was accused of carrying out the raid, but the agency afterwards issued a statement denying any involvement. Mischief-makers are behind the attempt to link the EFCC to the raid, according to Bawa on Channels Television on Saturday.
Such persons, he alleged, were aiming to break the link between the commission and the judiciary.
“I believe they are just mischief-makers attempting to attach anything to the EFCC of this sort,” Bawa stated. We weren’t there, and neither were any of our operators. It isn’t from the EFCC, and it isn’t related to the EFCC.
“I’ve also called all of the country’s non-security and law enforcement agencies, and they’ve all denied that anyone has been sent to the residence to search or arrest anyone.”
“In reality, I learned about it from a very senior lawyer who called the director of legal.” We were having an evening discussion, and he requested that I pass the phone to the director of operations with whom we were also meeting.
“And when I returned, since I had just stepped out, they said this is what’s going on, and we just chuckled because we know there are a lot of individuals who want to pit us against the courts.”
“And you know that the judiciary is the biggest collaborator in our job, and of course they’re just trying to create an issue where there isn’t one.”
Peter Odili, the judge’s husband, is a former governor of `“““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““`.
He’s recently been in the news for suspected corruption while in power in Rivers State.
