Anambra Election: US To Impose Visa Ban On Politicians See Why

 

Before, during, and after the November 6 governorship election in Anambra state, the United States warned that it would pay close attention to the activities of individuals who interfere with the democratic process or incite violence against civilian populations.

 

“Touchaheart Nigeria reports that the United States looks forward to a peaceful and transparent gubernatorial election in Anambra state on November 6, with results that accurately represent the choice of the state’s citizens,” the US Mission said in a statement on Wednesday.

 

“Actions by persons who interfere with the democratic process or incite violence against civilian populations before, during, or after the elections will be closely scrutinized.

 

“We will not hesitate to impose sanctions, including visa restrictions, on individuals determined to be involved in election-related violence or who undermine the democratic process.”

 

“Under US immigration law, certain offenses may also result in restrictions on family members,” the notification reads.

 

“We urge citizens, electoral officials, party members, and security forces to play a role in securing a credible and fair election.”
