In Lagos, police arrest a youngster for the third time for traffic robbery just weeks after he was released from prison

Touchaheart Nigeria reports that an adolescent traffic robber nabbed by Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) authorities has admitted that he returned to robbery to pay off a debt he accumulated following his release from prison four weeks ago.

Sodiq Abubakar, an 18-year-old robber, was apprehended by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Ketu around 8:00 p.m. on Friday after threatening a motorist with an unidentified object and then robbing him of his N7,000 in Ketu traffic.

Abubakar claimed that shortly after his release from the detention facility, he borrowed money to buy drugs. He went on to say that when his creditor grew overly demanding, he turned to road robbery to help pay off the obligation. Abubakar claimed he threatened to destroy the side glass of their victim if he did not surrender the money in his pockets with an accomplice named Ahmadu, who is now at large. He went on to say that their victim coughed up N7,000, which they instantly shared.

He stated that he was freed from the Correctional Centre four weeks ago after being arrested by officials from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS). He said he met Ahmadu near the Otedola Bridge and the two agreed to rob in the traffic. Their victim had instantly informed RRS officers nearby, who apprehended him not far from the scene, while Ahmadu managed to flee.

Abubakar revealed that on June 16, 2021, he was caught in Ketu for traffic robbery and sentenced to three months in prison. He said that on September 19, 2021, he was caught again in Alapere by the RRS patrol team for traffic robbery, but that he was transferred to the Alapere Divisional Police for prosecution. He was sentenced to a few weeks in prison, according to him. He was released four weeks before his third arrest near the Ojota Bridge, he said.

On the orders of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, he has been charged in court.
