After trying to pet his grandmother’s pit bull puppies, 4-year-old boy had his entire arm ripped off
Touchaheart Nigeria reports that when a four-year-old boy tried to pet his grandmother’s pit bull puppies, his entire arm was ripped off.
Axel Foster, an Oklahoma native, was brought to the hospital after a dog grabbed his arm just below the shoulder while he was playing at his grandparents’ house on Friday, Dec. 10.
When police arrived at the house, they discovered the boy’s arm was missing, and they placed a tourniquet to the limb.
Firefighters were also dispatched to assist the officers.
Tecumseh Police Department Chief JR Kidney told local news: “I’ve seen dog bites in the past and experienced pretty brutal dog bites with children but never a complete amputation.
“When officers and animal control attempted to retrieve the arm, the dog became aggressive to them.
“To be over just an innocent type thing of wanting to pat some puppies, it’s just devastating.”
Another officer told local news that “the child’s arm was still in the pen”, and that “one of the puppies was trying to chew on it”.
The boy’s grandma informed authorities that he was trying to pet the puppies, but the situation turned out badly for everyone concerned.
Destiny McDow, his mother, adding that he hopes to have his arm reattached.
The local Department of Human Services is still investigating whether the boy was supervised by an adult at the time of the incident, and Chief Kidney has indicated that the grandparents might face child negligence charges if it is determined that he was not.
He added: “At this time it appears to be an accident.
“We are waiting for DHS to finish its investigation.
“The boy was staying with his grandparents and went to try to pet the puppies.”
