Omicron: Germany Joins France In Prohibiting British Visitors

Germany is preparing to implement new travel restrictions that will bar British visitors from entering the country.

Touchaheart Nigeria reports that only German nationals, residents, and transit passengers will be allowed to enter Germany from the UK starting at midnight on Sunday, putting an end to any Christmas trip plans (11pm UK time).

Those who meet the admission requirements, whether or not they have been vaccinated, must present documentation of a negative PCR test and be quarantined for 14 days.

The Robert-Koch-Institut, the country’s public health authority, announced the new guidelines on Saturday evening after classifying the UK as an area of concern for Omicron variations.

For the second day in a row, the British government registered over 90,000 Covid instances on Saturday.

On Saturday, the British government recorded more than 90,000 Covid instances for the second consecutive day.

As a result, the United Kingdom has joined South Africa as the countries with the most stringent travel restrictions in Germany.

Until at least January 3, the new restrictions will be in effect.

It comes after France announced a restriction on travel to and from the United Kingdom unless there is a ‘compelling’ reason, which excludes leisure and business travel.

The UK foreign office’s advice for those wishing to travel to Germany has been updated in light of the new rules.

It states: ‘Only German citizens and residents may travel to Germany from the UK (there are limited exemptions).

‘Permitted travellers must now have proof of a negative Covid test, regardless of vaccination status.

‘All permitted travellers arriving in Germany after 23:01 on 19 December must quarantine at home for 14 days irrespective of their vaccination status.’

At the same time as countries around the world are banning British nationals from visiting, the UK has eased its own travel restrictions.

The red list was abolished this week, which means that no one will be needed to check into a quarantine hotel upon arrival.

The announcement of a travel ban in France caught many people off guard, prompting a rush of travellers to cross the water before the laws took effect.

This had an impact on freight trade, resulting in long lorry lines at ports such as Dover.

On Saturday, there were long queues on the M20 motorway in Kent and at the Channel Tunnel’s entrance.

It came after long lines at the Port of Dover the day before, when many individuals moved their Christmas travel plans forward to dodge the new rules.
