Poor Leadership, Weak Justice System Major Causes Of Insecurity In Nigeria – Buratai
Former Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd) has blamed insecurity and other social challenges in Nigeria on a weak justice system, ignorance, and poor leadership, among other things.
Touchaheart Nigeria reports that Buratai, Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, made the remarks at the groundbreaking and fundraiser for the Tukur Buratai Research Centre (TBRC) in Gora, Nasarawa State, according to NAN.
He stated that the Centre would work with Nasarawa State University, Keffi, on strategic studies, leadership for development, and peace and conflict studies.
“One might wonder why a retired general or diplomat would decide to collaborate with a university to establish a think-tank like TBRC,” he says.
“Because this is a direct question, I’ll respond with a precise and to-the-point answer.”
“My simple life philosophy is to continue to live a life of value by improving on the system that we’ve created.”
“As a veteran of the military, I believe that the best way for me and my colleagues to contribute to our society and make our country better and stronger is through a think-tank like TBRC.”
Buratai stated that Nigeria has great potential, but that there are insufficient capabilities to translate that potential into socioeconomic benefits for the people.
Inadequate implementation of research and development in Nigeria, he claims, creates a massive void in the country’s progress.
“When properly focused research and training institutes are established, innovation and development become a natural progressive activity that benefits the nation’s life,” Buratai said.
“In other words, as a result of improved study and training, Nigeria gains the ability to develop positively.”
“Corruption, insecurity caused by terrorism and banditry, insufficient infrastructure, governance issues, and an inept educational system are all systemic flaws.”
“With every amount of dedication to research and training, as well as a strong national orientation, one can be confident that we, as a people and a nation, are on the right track.”
“I’d like to use this TBRC platform to emphasize that now is the time for us to look within and devise home-grown solutions to our specific problems.”
Buratai stated that TBRC was his way of contributing to national development and giving back to society through a well-planned approach that would have a positive impact.
