Nnamdi Kanu Pleads Not Guilty

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has pleaded not guilty to the 15 accusations of alleged treasonable felony leveled against him by the Federal Government.

When the case was reopened in the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, he pleaded not guilty before Justice Binta Nyako.

On Monday, the Federal Government filed new terrorist accusations against the arrested IPOB leader in Abuja’s Federal High Court.

Kanu’s initial charges of treasonable crime and terrorism were increased from seven to fifteen as a result of the action.

Kanu, though, opposed to the new allegations during his trial on Tuesday, which was held amid intense security.

The hearing was subsequently postponed until Wednesday, so he could enter his plea.

Kanu appeared in court, defying Justice Binta Nyako’s order, wearing the same fashionable clothes he had been wearing since his detention in June of last year.

On Tuesday, Justice Nyako ordered the Department of State Services, or DSS, to enable Kanu to change his clothes.

Mr. Shuaibu Labaran, the prosecution counsel, told the court that he (Kanu) was the one who chose to wear his designer clothes when the case was called up.

Kanu has been given a new Orthopedic mattress, pillows, and blankets by the DSS, according to him.

Kanu’s main counsel, Mike Ozekhome, responded by telling the court that it was not true that his client insisted on wearing his designer clothes because it was not his visiting day on Tuesday and hence fresh clothes could not be provided to him.

He went on to say that garments would be given to him on his next visit day.

He did, however, praise the DSS for supplying new beds and pillows to the IPOB commander.

Justice Nyako reaffirmed her desire for Kanu to have a change of clothes before allowing him to be re-arraigned on the amended 15-count treasonable felony charge filed by the Federal Government against him.

Kanu then submitted his plea to the newly modified case against him, which includes allegations of terrorism, felony, incitement, illicit importation of a radio transmitter, and being the leader of an illegal organization.

The DSS had produced many documentary pieces of evidence, including electronic devices it would use to play some of the alleged inciting broadcasts made by Kanu, before he was led into the courtroom at 10:15 a.m.

FG To Pay Nnamdi Kanu N1B As Well As Tender A Letter Of Apology

The court ordered the Federal Government to pay Nnamdi Kanu N1 billion and recommended a political solution.

On Wednesday, a high court in Abia State ordered the federal government to pay N1 billion to Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

The court also ordered the government to issue a letter of apology to the secessionist for allegedly violating his fundamental human rights.

Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, made this known in a tweet, saying, “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wins as Abia High Court rules that the Federal Government violated his fundamental rights, orders the Federal government to pay N1b to him and issue a letter of apology to him.

“Most importantly, the court recommended political solution to the #Biafran agitation.”
