Less than a month before his 113th birthday, the world’s oldest man passed away. Saturnino de la Fuente Garcia, a father of eight, died in his house in Leon, northern Spain, on Tuesday morning, January 18.
On February 8, the retired shoemaker was supposed to celebrate his birthday with his family, as he claimed to have been born on that date.
When Saturnino turned 112 years old in September, he became the world’s oldest man, according to the Guinness Book of Records.

The father of eight had 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and was married to Antonina Barrio. The sole male of the couple’s eight children died when he was still a kid.
When asked what his secret to longevity was, Saturnino said, “A quiet life and not hurting anyone.”
Saturnino de la Fuente, the world’s oldest man, died on Tuesday, and his local club Cultural y Deportivo Leonesa tweeted: ‘We’re devastated by the passing of Saturnino de la Fuente, the world’s oldest man, and will remember him with great affection.’
‘We share the pain of his loss and we would like to express our condolences to his family and friends.’
‘We’re saddened to learn that Saturnino de la Fuente Garcia has passed away at his home at the age of 112 years and 341 days,’ Guinness World Records added.
The news has been confirmed by Senior Gerontology Consultant Robert Young, who also helped confirm Saturnino‘s record as the oldest living male in September 2021.
‘The record holder was announced as the oldest man living at exactly 112 years and 211 days.’
