One of Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyers, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has refuted his client’s assertion that he is not a member of the Indigenous People of Biafra.
Ejiofor responded to the claim made by the federal government’s lawyer, Labaran Magaji, by calling it a “deliberate misrepresentation/falsehood and erroneous narratives being promoted by some mischief makers” that has acquired traction on social media.
The IPOB leader’s lawyer stated in a statement titled “Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu never denied being the leader of IPOB – Let the records be set straight” that “the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) in their desperate but futile attempt to give a dog a bad name in order to hang it, brought a charge bordering on the status of IPOB.”
It reads;
“S.M. Labaran Esq, who stood in for the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation yesterday (Wednesday), is a colleague I hold in high regard, but I will resist every mischievous ploy being used to misinform the unsuspecting members of the public who were not privy to the details of the proceedings in court yesterday, with a wrong and mischievous interpretation of the purport of our indefatigable client – Onyendu Mazi
“For the record, Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu never disputed being the leader of IPOB during his plea, but he did vehemently deny that IPOB is a terrorist organization and that being its leader is a crime, which is a well-informed view.”
“Members of the public should be aware that the status of the black market order prohibiting IPOB is the subject of an appeal before the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, under Appeal Number: CA/A/214/2018.
“That being said, it is only laughable that the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) brought a charge relating to the status of IPOB, which is the subject of a competent Appeal, where issues have been joined with the same FGN, in their desperate but futile attempt to give a dog a bad name in order to hang it.
“Therefore, UmuChineke, be appropriately directed, because in our persuasive statements before the Court, currently adjourned to be heard on February 16, 2022, we have sufficiently addressed the emptiness of that count and complete allegation.”
“We don’t want to go into detail on this, but be aware that Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu never disputed being the leader of IPOB throughout his plea hearing yesterday.”
