Grace Dauda, the Chief Nursing Officer of the Federal Medical Centre in Jabi, Abuja, was assassinated by unknown gunmen.
Dauda, 54, was assassinated on January 5, 2022, at her home in Auta Balefi, Karu Local Area, Nasarawa State, according to Punch.
The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives’ Federal Capital Territory Council bemoaned the fact that the killers had yet to be apprehended.
Comrade Deborah Yusuf, the association’s Chairman, spoke to press in Abuja on Tuesday, January 25, and urged security agencies to find Dauda’s killers, saying the association would not rest until they were found.
“The sense of bereavement is palpable. It has a visceral quality to it. We mourn the loss of one of our most loyal, committed, and dependable members, “Yusuf explained.
“The entire Nigerian nursing community has suffered a significant loss. We share her family’s grief over this tragic death. We pray for her soul’s repose.
“Whatever the motivation for this most unnatural and brutal act of man’s inhumanity to man, we want to emphasize that only God has the authority to end human life.”
She urged governments at all levels to take seriously the security of citizens’ lives and property, as stipulated in the 1999 Constitution.
Yusuf, on the other hand, advised nurses and midwives to be more security conscious, follow the law, and report any suspicious activity in their area to the appropriate authorities.
