Police Kills 23 alleged terrorists

In three local government districts of Sokoto State, Nigerian police officers have killed 23 suspected terrorists and arrested 37 others.

The suspects were caught with 32 AK-47 rifles, two rocket launchers, over 1,000 rounds of live ammunition, and advanced weapons, according to Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Ahmed Zaki.

The feat was recorded during Operation Sahara Storm, a police special operation to combat banditry, according to Zaki. The exercise was carried out in the state’s Illela, Goronyo, and Rabba local government areas, where bandits and other criminals have made life unbearable for residents.

Over 150 cows were discovered, as well as 40 cartoons of hard drugs, various charms, solar battery chargers, and other tools used by the alleged thieves.

The operation was directed by the Inspector General of Police to combat escalating criminal activity in the geopolitical region of the North-West, according to the DIG.

Musa Kamarawa, one of the arrested suspects, informed journalists that he had been working with bandits for the past four years. He claimed to have acquired N28 million from the Benin Republic to purchase a gun truck.
