At A Military Base, A Soldier Was Discovered Dead

At the country’s largest military base, a British soldier was discovered dead.

A soldier died on Saturday at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire, according to the British Army. His name, position, or regiment were not given, though.

‘We can confirm the death of a soldier on February 5, 2022,’ an Army spokeswoman said in a statement.

‘The circumstances surrounding this death are under investigation, and more comment would be inappropriate at this time.’

‘Our hearts go out to the soldier’s family and friends,’ said the statement.

The 1st Battalion Yorkshire Regiment and the Royal Lancers are among the 13,000 Armed Forces soldiers stationed at Cattertick Garrison, Britain’s largest military facility.

The soldier’s death is not the first that has occurred at the barracks. In August, Lance Corporal Ryan MacKenzie was discovered comatose in his Munster Barracks restroom.

His cause of death was listed as ‘hanging’ in an inquest that began in October but was postponed until a later date.

Lance Corporal Bernard Mongan, another member of the military, was discovered dead in his barracks quarters in January 2020. He is thought to have died around the New Year’s holiday, yet his body was not discovered for three weeks.

He was a member of the Royal Corps of Signals, but had been assigned to the Intelligence Corps, and was scheduled to move to another base in January.
