#ClubWoldCupfinal: Chelsea Win Club World Cup
For the first time in their history, Chelsea has won the Club World Cup.
After Manchester United and Liverpool, the Blues have become the third English team to win the global cup.
On Saturday, February 12, 2022, Chelsea’s Champions League final hero, Kai Havertz, struck a penalty deep into extra time as Chelsea overcame Brazil’s Palmeiras 2-1 in the football Club World Cup final.
On 54 minutes, Romelu Lukaku’s spectacular header put the European champions ahead, but Raphael Veiga equalized for the Copa Libertadores winners just after the hour mark in Abu Dhabi.
Chelsea’s match-winner was German Havertz, who was the hero in the Champions League final against Manchester City after converting a penalty awarded after a VAR review on 117 minutes.
“It’s amazing. After champions of Europe, we are now champions of the world. It sounds better,” Havertz told Channel 4.
“I was nervous [taking the penalty], I have to be honest. It’s a big penalty. It’s just crazy. It was good I kept the nerves. I am very happy. I dreamed always as a kid of this. This is an amazing feeling for me.”
For the first time in their existence, the Blues were declared global champions.
Since Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003, Chelsea has won every available trophy, becoming the third English team to win the worldwide championship following Manchester United and Liverpool.
