Abba Kyari Declared Wanted By NDLEA For Narcotics Trafficking

Abba Kyari, a suspended Deputy of Police, has been designated sought by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for alleged drug trafficking connections.

BREAKING: ASUU Goes On A One-Month Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (Asuu) has called a “complete and comprehensive” strike.

According to Tjis online portal, the strike was announced at a press conference held by ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, on Monday.

He said the strike, which begins today, Monday, February 14, will extend for four weeks at first.

Since Saturday, members of the union’s National Executive Council have been holding lengthy meetings at the University of Lagos dubbed “NEC for NEC.”

ASUU had educated and mobilized lecturers and students across the country on the reasons for the union’s likely strike.

As far back as 2009, the union had expressed dissatisfaction with the Federal Government’s failure to follow through on some of the agreements it had made. On November 15, 2021, ASUU issued a three-week ultimatum to the federal government for failing to meet the requests.

Following the alleged “government’s unfaithfulness” in implementing the Memorandum of Action it signed with the union, which resulted in the suspension of the 2020 strike action, the lecturers threatened to go on strike again.

Following the threat, Emeka Nwajiuba, Minister of State for Education, assured that the union will be compensated.

ASUU called off the scheduled protest a few weeks later, after professors in federal universities were given N22.1 billion in earned allowances.

Following the union’s renewed agitations, the co-chairmen of the National Inter-religious Council, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Abubakar III, and the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Dr. Samson Ayokunle, paid a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) last month to express their disappointment with the government’s failure to implement the Memorandum of Understanding signed with ASUU in 2009 and other issues.
