Abba Kyari Drags FG To The Court
On Monday, the Federal Government was sued by suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, Abba Kyari, who is currently in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for his alleged participation in drug trafficking.
According to this online platform, Kyari is asking the court to compel the NDLEA to grant him release on health grounds pending the hearing and determination of his fundamental right enforcement application, which is marked FHC/ABJ/CS/182/22.
Mrs P. O. Ikenna, the contentious former director of the Police Intelligence Response Team, IRT, told the court in an ex-parte motion that he was being held “on the basis of a false charge that was leveled against him.”
When the case was called up, however, Justice Inyang Ekwo noted that the action contained some allegations that would necessitate a response from the FG.
“Upon studying the process of the Applicant and averments in support thereon, I am of the opinion that the Respondent should be put on notice”, the Judge held.
My efforts to persuade the court to grant Kyari’s release on the grounds that “his health has worsened considerably” were unsuccessful.
Rather, Justice Ekwo ordered that the relevant proceedings be served on FG, who was named as the lone Respondent, while adjourning the case until February 24.
