Queen Elizabeth Cancels Virtual Activities Twice After Testing Positive To Covid-19

Queen Elizabeth Cancels Virtual Activities Twice Since Testing Positive To Covid-19

Buckingham Palace announced on Thursday that Queen Elizabeth II had postponed her daily virtual engagements for the second time since testing positive for the coronavirus on Sunday.

According to a royal official, several persons at Windsor Castle, where the 95-year-old queen has spent most of her time in virtual quarantine during the pandemic, were infected this week. It’s unclear who infected her with the virus.

After visiting with her son and heir Prince Charles at Windsor Castle earlier this month, the queen tested positive on Sunday. Charles, who has been properly vaccinated and boosted, tested positive for the coronavirus again and was placed in isolation.

On Thursday, the palace did not specify why the queen’s meetings were called off, so it was unclear whether the move reflected lingering Covid symptoms. On Tuesday, the palace said she had canceled virtual events because she was “still experiencing mild cold-like symptoms.”

The palace said the queen would be “continuing with light duties,” and that she had no other engagements scheduled this week. It did not say when Thursday’s virtual engagements would be rescheduled.

According to the palace, the queen did have her regularly planned contact with Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Wednesday. There had been some concern about whether their phone conversation would go forward due to her coronavirus recovery and the escalating turmoil in Ukraine.

Mr. Johnson announced her condition as he moved to relax England’s remaining coronavirus restrictions this week.

In January 2021, Elizabeth and her late husband, Prince Philip, received their first dose of coronavirus vaccine at Windsor Castle. No extra vaccination doses have been confirmed by the palace.
