Nigerian Association of Orphanages and Homes Operators Appreciates Davido
The Nigerian Association of Orphanages and Homes Operators has expressed gratitude to Davido for his N250 million donation.
Toutchaheart Nigeria reports that the Association of Orphanages and Homes Operators in Nigeria (ASOHON) has praised and praised Nigerian artist David Adeleke, also known as Davido, for his N250 million donation.
Remember that for his 29th birthday last year, the Grammy winner announced he needed money to clear his Rolls Royce from the port, and his fans, families, and friends donated N250 million.
Davido’s unusual idea eventually brought smiles to the faces of the residents of two hundred and ninety-two (292) homes that housed multiple orphans.

At a news conference, Rev. Dr. Gabriel Oyediji, National President of ASOHON, stated that the organization cannot assess the worth of this sovereignty at a time when there is widespread charity weariness and the Covid-19 pandemic has a negative regression co-efficient.
“We truly appreciate Davido and hereby formally confirm that the fund was correctly released,” Rev. Oyediji added. We also want to affirm the disbursement, notwithstanding the fact that it was marred by a few glitches. We are well aware of the difficulties that the committee charged with the task faces in locating, vetting, and validating credible institutions and orphanages. We submitted 592 trustworthy orphanages and homes across the country, but only 292 were visited. Even so, several unregistered homes, closed down homes and non-existing homes were also included in the 292 benefitting.
“From our calculations, we figure that the sharing modality adopted by the Committee assigned by Davido allocated the average rate of N25, 000 per orphan in the beneficiary home. We also noticed some disequilibrium in the rating as some homes got lesser than the number of orphans in their homes while several others got nothing.”
The national president also praised Davido for forming a committee to oversee the disbursement of cash. He stated that the association appreciates the committee’s efforts in completing the disbursement despite the difficulties encountered.
While praising Davido, the group also urges the government, organizations, and individuals to provide more support.
“We really appreciate Davido’s initiative and wish to appeal to Nigerians of goodwill to emulate the superstar and reach out to orphans in Homes across the country. No home operator in the country receives sustained grants or funds, from the Government to run their homes.”
On the issue of over-regulation of orphanages in Nigeria, Oyediji, while applauding the proposed bill in the House of Representatives establishing a regulatory body for orphanages in the country, cautioned against unnecessary duplication of supervisory bodies and a waste of Nigeria’s limited resources.
Instead of passing a bill to create a new one, the association wants those bodies/organs to be strengthened with adequate funds and suitable resources to improve their operations and perform better on the job.
“We appeal to our beloved lawmakers in the House of Representatives to reconsider their stand, drop the bill, and strengthen the existing regulatory organs,” he said.

Speaking on the adoption process in the country, he said, the rush for adoptable children in Nigerian orphanages is escalating and becoming disturbing. “The fact remains that there is a geometrical growing rate of families in need of a child to adopt, and arithmetical rate of children available for adoption.”
The group wants adoption laws and procedures to be decentralized so that applicants can adopt children from any part of the country using a single approval form.
Also, he added, “We are sincerely advocating for workable alternatives. Specifically, we are calling on the government to be proactive and allow child-raising alternatives like surrogacy and other medically approved methods of raising children,” he stated.
Dr. Oyediji also spoke about the various forms of insecurity that orphanages and homes face on a daily basis in their operations around the country.
According to him, the security concerns that our country’s orphanages and homes face are multifaceted. Health, food, education, and emotional insecurities are examples of such insecurities.
The association recommended proper funding and deployment of contemporary security equipment and security agencies for homes and orphanages to eliminate or lessen the level of insecurity at orphanages.
They also suggested that the supervising ministries be given more power so that they could provide needed reliefs in areas such as funding, hiring professional security firms, maintaining orphanages and homes, equipping homes with CCTV, ensuring adequate power, capacity building, free health insurance, and NHIS enrollment, among other things.
