JAMB Detained Operators Of Illegal CBT Centers Ahead Of The UTME In 2022

JAMB Arrests Illicit CBT Center Operators in Kwara, Kogi, and Other States for the 2022 UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has arrested operators of Computer Based Test (CBT) centers who are suspected of illegally registering students for the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

This online news portal knows that JAMB officials launched sting operations throughout four states, namely Kwara, Kogi, Katsina, and Enugu, according to information contained in JAMB’s weekly bulletin released on Monday.

The arrested operators, according to JAMB, harmed the registration process for some unethical financial gain by setting up unlicensed satellite registration sites.

It verified that three of the four centers’ staff members who were detained while carrying out the illegal act had been handed over to security officers for prosecution, and that the centers’ accreditation had been suspended.

JAMB had previously declared that any infringement of its registration flow by technical officials of any of its certified centers would not be tolerated.

While supervising the ongoing registration exercise at the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre recently, its Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, reminded CBT centre administrators of the importance of playing by the rules so as not to compromise candidates’ opportunities and futures.

Prof. Oloyede, who accompanied certain members of the media to other CBT centers in the Ibadan metropolitan, took time to speak with some of the candidates about their experiences throughout the registration process.

He confirmed that the Board gained valuable insights, particularly regarding the creation of profile codes, payments, and the operation of the dual-screen mode to facilitate accurate capturing of candidates’ details, among other things, all of which would be analyzed in order to create a more robust and user-friendly registration process.

Meanwhile, according to Touchaheart Nigeria, JAMB said that 1, 121, 123 people have successfully registered for the UTME and Direct Entry as of Saturday, March 12th, 2022, just 13 days before the registration window closes.

It, however, ruled out the possibility of extending the registration window for the UTME and Direct Entry, stating that the registration period, which runs from February 19 to March 26, 2022, is the only window allowed to the Board by relevant authorities to undertake the exercise.

Dr. Fabian Benjamin, a spokesman for JAMB, previously stated that any extension of registration is practically impossible for JAMB to consider because sister examination bodies such as WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB have assigned time that the Board cannot usurp.

He further explained, “It should be noted that registration and examination dates are not fixed arbitrarily but through a consensus of opinions of the Federal Ministry of Education and examination agencies.

“Hence, before the commencement of registration or examination for any given year, all public examinations bodies are invited to a roundtable where they are expected to agree on the timetable of activities for each examination agency and which must be strictly adhered to.”

The JAMB spokesman urged prospective candidates who desire to register for the 2022/23 UTME/DE to do as quickly as possible as no extension would be granted after the close of registration.
