Afghan Girls Stage Protest, Demand Taliban Reopen Schools- Photos

More than two dozen girls and women protested in front of the Ministry of Education in Kabul, days after the Taliban government closed secondary schools for girls until further notice, prompting accusations that the Afghan group was breaking its commitment to provide higher education for girls.

Thousands of ecstatic Afghan girls descended on educational facilities on Wednesday, the date specified by the education ministry for the resumption of lessons for girls of all ages.

However, just hours into the first day, the ministry issued a shocking policy change, leaving young people feeling misled and foreign countries fuming.

Following the Taliban’s decision to close schools, the US postponed planned talks with the Taliban in Qatar on Friday.

Girls in the sixth grade will be unable to attend school as a result of the Taliban’s decision, which they have yet to explain.

“Open the schools! Justice, justice!” chanted protesters on Saturday, some carrying school books as they gathered at a city square in Kabul.

They marched for a short distance, holding banners that said “Education is our fundamental right, not a political scheme,” before dispersing as Taliban gunmen came on the site.
