Over 26 Women And Children Die As Boat Capsizes In Sokoto
Touchaheart Nigeria reports that 26 people have been confirmed dead after a boat capsizes on the Shagari River in the Shagari local government region of Sokoto state.
Chairman of Shagari Council Area, Aliyu Dantani, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday, April 13 in Sokoto, that the accident happened on Tuesday evening, April 12.
Dantani added that 21 of the 26 bodies retrieved were women, while five were children, and that a search and rescue attempt was still underway.
The chairman, on the other hand, said it was impossible to know how many people were on board the boat right once.
Local divers were currently in the river, he said, trying to figure out how to recover dead or rescue Survivors.
