1. To commemorate this year’s Workers’ Day and Eidul-Fitr celebrations, the Federal Government has declared Monday and Tuesday as public holidays. On Thursday, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, issued a statement on behalf of the government, which was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Shuaib Belgore.

2. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has requested that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) grant him first refusal in its presidential primary because he is the “best aspirant to win the election for the Party.” On Thursday, Atiku told members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) that he should be considered because he already had 11 million votes.

3. The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, warned Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and a few other politicians in the southeast region on Thursday for allegedly working against the Igbo presidency in 2023.

4. Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has told former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that despite their friendship, he will not campaign for him as a presidential candidate.

5. Benin’s Oba, Omo N’Oba Ewuare II, assured Vice President Yemi Osinbajo that he would be Nigeria’s next president yesterday. The monarch, who welcomed Osinbajo to his palace, claimed that many applicants were just interested in positions that would allow them to gain fortune, and that the VP position remained a significant obstacle to other aspirants.

8. In solidarity with affiliate unions in universities and Nigerian students, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened to go on a three-day nationwide warning strike. This is stated in a statement jointly delivered to newsmen on Thursday in Abuja by its President, Mr Ayuba Wabba, and its General Secretary, Mr Emmanuel Ugboaja.

9. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to the theft of a large sum of money from the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, claiming that the money is not the party’s. The party’s national secretariat moved the sale of forms to the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja yesterday.

10. President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to use all legal means to safeguard Nigerians’ votes in the 2023 general elections. The President addressed members of the Diplomatic Corps at an Iftar dinner on Thursday.
