CEO of Sterling Bank, Abubakar Suleiman should be fired- angry Nigerians

Nigerians demand that the CEO of Sterling Bank be fired. Following Deborah’s Murder, Abubakar Suleiman

Touchaheart Nigeria reported earlier on Thursday, May 12, 2022, that a 200-level Home Economics student at Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto State, northern Nigeria, was lynched by fellow students for supposed blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.

Deborah Samuel, a Christian student, allegedly published the inflammatory comment in a school Whatsapp group, according to this online news outlet. The kids were enraged by the obscene message, and they overwhelmed school security, beat her to death, and set her body on fire.

Deborah Yakubu told her classmates not to share religious items on the class WhatsApp group chat.

She had said before her death; “Holy ghost fire, nothing would happen to me, is it by force you guys would always be sending this religious stuff in the group, the group wasn’t created for that, but rather as a notice for when there’s a test, assignment, exams, etc, not these nonsense Religious posts.

“Consequently, all students are hereby directed to vacate the College campus immediately,” the school said in a statement.

The assassination of Deborah Samuel has sparked debate across social media platforms, with many Netizens decrying Sterling Bank’s corporate rascality and open disregard for the Christian race while under the supervision of a Muslim MD/CEO, Abubakar Suleiman, according to ENigeria Newspaper.

Following the death of Deborah Samuel, a young woman in her twenties, who was slain and set burned in Sokoto on Thursday, May 12, 2022, Nigerians turned to Twitter to demand that Sterling Bank MD Abubakar Suleiman be fired immediately.

Alternatively, as some sources claim, Sterling Bank equated Agege Bread to Jesus in its Easter 2022 statement. In fact, the bank wrote “Like Agege Bread, He Rose,” an allusion to both Jesus’ historical resurrection and Agege Bread’s rise.

When the incident that resulted in Deborah Samuel’s death occurred on Thursday afternoon, the tension created by the Abubakar Suleiman-led Sterling Bank “Agege Bread” advertisement had not completely subsided, and now aggrieved Christian members have resurrected calls for the Sterling Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer to be fired.

The majority of Christians are undoubtedly unhappy, and no one knows how far they will go to vent their dissatisfaction. Will Abubakar Suleiman completely dodge the Christian axe throughout the story? Time will tell, perhaps.

No one was killed as a result of this. Sterling bank's CEO was forgiven. Yet some so-called youths went as far as taking their own course mate's life. I am a follower of Christ, but I do not support blasphemy against Allah SWT and prophet Mohammed SAW. Blasphemy is wrong. I condemn it. I also condemn mob justice. When there is an accusation of blasphemy, it has to be judicially pursued, not violently pursued. #TableShaker

— Reno Omokri (@renoomokri) May 12, 2022

People get killed thats why you hear of blasphemy against Islam. Muslims do it against Christians, often without harm. Recently, the MD of Sterling Bank made a blasphemous statement he was comfortably in his office as at today. https://t.co/lvvfRErOjA

The reason religious intolerance exists in Norther Nig is because perpetrators of violence on religious grounds know nothing will happen. This was Sterling Bank mocking the resurrection of Christ on Easter Day. Imagine this degree of mockery, had Islam being on the receiving end pic.twitter.com/xweIeY9fq1

— Susan (@SusanHenshaw50) May 12, 2022

She just said stop posting religious contents in our class WhatsApp group which is meant for educational things. How is that blaspheming? Good night once again.

Sterling Bank led by Abubakar Suleiman compared Jesus Christ to "Agege Bread" in its Easter message last month and no Christians blinked an eye.

The school was eventually shut down by management in an effort to prevent the situation from escalating.

“Following today’s early morning Students rampage in the College, the College Management has resolved to close down the College indefinitely with immediate effect.

“Consequently, all students are hereby directed to vacate the College campus immediately,” the school said in a statement.
