Deborah Samuel Burnt Alive For Blasphemy In Sokoto

Deborah Samuel, a student, was beaten to death and set on fire by her classmates in Sokoto.

Deborah Samuel was beaten and set flame by students in Sokoto for blasphemy, according to a video.

On Thursday, May 12, 2022, a 200-level Home Economics student at Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto State, northern Nigeria, was lynched by fellow students for supposed blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.

This online news platform Deborah Samuel, a Christian student, allegedly published the inflammatory comment in a school Whatsapp group.

The kids were enraged by the obscene message, and they overwhelmed school security, beat her to death, and set her body on fire.

Deborah Samuel advised her classmates not to share religious items on the class WhatsApp group chat, according to the audio obtained by Newsone Nigeria.

She reportedly said before her death; “Holy ghost fire, nothing would happen to me, is it by force you guys would always be sending this religious stuff in the group, the group wasn’t created for that, but rather as a notice for when there’s a test, assignment, exams, etc, not these nonsense Religious posts.”

The school was eventually shut down by management in an effort to prevent the situation from escalating.

“Following today’s early morning Students rampage in the College, the College Management has resolved to close down the College indefinitely with immediate effect.

“Consequently, all students are hereby directed to vacate the College campus immediately,” the school said in a statement.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, condemned the extrajudicial execution of the student and called on the authorities to bring the criminals to justice.

“The Sultanate Council has learned with dismay the unfortunate happenings at the Shehu Shagari College of Education, (SSCOE) Sokoto that led to the loss of life of a female student of the Institution

The Sultanate Council condemned the incident in its totality and has urged the security agencies to bring perpetrators of the unjustifiable incident to justice.

“The Sultanate Council has urged all to remain calm and ensure peaceful co-existence among all people of the State and nation,” the statement said.

What the police Are Saying About Deborah Samuel’s Murder…

Sanusi Abubakar, the spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, issued a statement.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the killing, according to the police.

The police were dispatched to the scene of the incident after getting the information, led by the operation’s Deputy Commissioner of Police and other commanders, to bring the situation under control.

According to Mr. Abubakar, the school has been closed and more police officers have been dispatched to the area.

He further stated that the Sokoto State Command Commissioner of Police, Kamaldeen Kola Okunlola, has appealed to members of the public to go about their normal business and not to worry because the situation is under control.

Meanwhile, Touchaheart Nigeria reports that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has promised that the suspects in the viral video on Twitter have been identified and will be apprehended shortly.
