See Why Atiku Deletes Facebook and Twitter Posts About Deborah’s Murder

After getting threats from northern extremists telling him to withdraw his presidential ambition, Atiku Abubakar has removed a message dead Deboral Samuel that he had syndicated on his Facebook and Twitter profiles.

Touchaheart Nigeria reports that Mr. Atiku’s posts were deleted less than an hour later, around 10:20 p.m. on Thursday. Both received thousands of responses within minutes.

The majority of the comments, according to this internet publication, came from fundamentalists warning the politician not to condemn the Christian student’s murder.

“There can not be a justification for such gruesome murder. Deborah Yakubu was murdered, and all those behind her death must be brought to justice,” Mr Atiku said. “My condolences to her family and friends.”

Meanwhile,  Touchaheart Nigeria reports that Mr Abubkar’s spokesman did not react to a request for comment on why the post was taken from Facebook.

Mr. Abubakar comes from the northern Nigerian state of Adamawa, but he continues to have considerable support, particularly among southern Christians who regard him as a moderate leader.
