Governor Wike Has Been Named Atiku’s Running Mate For The 2023 Election

For the 2023 election, Governor Wike has been chosen as Atiku’s running mate.

Touchaheart Nigeria reports that a committee of Nigeria’s biggest opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has recommended Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate.

According to two individuals reported by Peoples Gazette who are privy with the decision, the PDP committee said that Governor Wike, as Atiku’s running mate for the 2023 election, will do better for the ticket than his main competitors.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta was recommended as the second-best politician to partner with Abubakar, according to the research, while Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom was ranked third.

According to our sources, Aminu Tambuwal, chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, backed the decision to put Wike first on the list of crucial vice-presidential candidates for Abubakar. The list included contributions from governors, board of trustee members, and national working committee officials.

“They were recommended based on their individual strength,” a source said.

Governors Wike and Okowa have been vying for the position of running mate, with Okowa previously viewed as a shoo-in for Abubakar until lately, when Wike expressed interest.

Atiku has reportedly promised Okowa the presidential ticket since last year, and when Wike ran against him, the option was judged simple. However, the rivalry became clear last week when Okowa said that only God could prevent him from being Atiku’s running mate.

It was unclear whether the committee’s ruling would be upheld right away. Mr Abubakar has yet to reveal his final decision, and a request for comment from his spokesman was not immediately returned.

Other panels and think tanks are giving recommendations to Abubakar on his running mate option, according to the article, Peoples Gazette knows. The development occurred more than two weeks after Atiku was declared as the main opposition party’s presidential candidate, paving the way for a battle with Bola Tinubu, the ruling All Progressives Congress’ presidential flagbearer.
