Kano’s mutual responsibility framework will cost the UK government £6.2 million
The UK government will spend £6.2 million this year, 2022, on health, education, and core governance through the Mutual Accountability Framework in Kano State, according to a statement released on Wednesday by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, or FCDO.
At the 2nd Mutual Accountability Framework Strategic Dialogue between the Kano State Government and the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, FCDO, held at Government House in Kano, the FCDO Development Director, Dr. Chris Pycroft, made this statement.
The Mutual Accountability Framework and Strategic Dialogue, according to Dr. Pycroft, are a crystal-clear declaration of the United Kingdom’s commitment and support to the administration and people of Kano State.
He claims that the mutual responsibility structure has achieved good success because in 2021 FCDO committed £5,500,000 to help Kano’s development goals.
The meeting’s purpose, according to Kano State Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who opened it in his place and was represented by his deputy, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, is to review the agreement of the first Kano Mutual Accountability Framework, which was signed last year, to determine the progress made so far in terms of carrying out the framework’s key activities.
“The Kano Mutual Accountability Framework sets out the reform initiatives the Kano State Government introduced and the support FCDO will provide to drive overall growth and development of Kano State.
“The revised Kano Mutual Accountability Framework will continue to monitor concrete reforms that will support good governance, improvement in economic recovery, investment and also reduce poverty through human capital development, particularly on health, education and social protection,” the Governor said.
The Kano State Government is firmly dedicated to the success of the Kano Mutual Accountability Framework, he further reaffirmed in a statement to the UK-FCDO and other development partners.
The Governor also unveiled state policy documents on the Multi-Sectoral Plan of Action, Social Protection, and Development Plan.
He and the FCDO Director both signed the document establishing the Kano Mutual Accountability Framework.
Commissioners, Alh. Rabi’u Suleiman Bichi, Chairman of the Technical Committee on the Kano Mutual Accountability Framework, representatives of traditional institutions, permanent secretaries, development partners, and civil society organizations were present at the event.
