The Life of Ada Ameh the Nollywood actress

Ada Ameh was a Nigerian actress who spent more than two decades in the Nigerian movie industry.

And was most notable for her character as Anita in the 1996 movie titled Domitilla and as Emu Johnson in the award winning Nigeriantelevision series.

She was born 15th May 1974 at the Naval Barracks on Malu (Mobil) road Ajegunle in Lagos State, a south western  part of Nigeria predominantly occupied by the Yoruba speaking people of Nigeria.

Known to have produced other notable personalities cutting across all spheres of life.The likes of Daddy Showkey a notable song writer and Artist.

Victor James Osimhen who is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a striker for Serie A club Napoli and the Nigeria national team. Just to mention a few whose talents were discovered in Ajegunle.

Not forgetting the African Nations cup top scorer 2019 Edition Jude Odion Ighalo is a product of Ajegunle city in Lagos state.

She received both primary and secondary school education in Lagos State but would eventually quit school at age 14 owning to several curve balls life threw at her.

When Ada Ameh became pregnant at age 14 and her mother passed away at the same time, her secondary schooling was postponed.

She left secondary school, was driven from her house, but was eventually called back.

She turned to prostitution in order to care for her child, who was fathered by an unnamed member of the military.

Later, she returned to take the GCE as an outside candidate. Ade Ameh afterwards went on to earn a cosmetology diploma.

Although being a native of Idoma in Benue State Nigeria.

In 2020, Ms Ameh lost her daughter, Aladi God Gift, who was over 30 years old. Her daughter died after an unsuccessful surgery in Abuja.

Since then she has been a shadow of herself.

Her family comes from Idoma in the state of Benue. Ada, a tomboy and the sixth child, was born into a family of 11 children, including 6 younger sisters and 5 older brothers.

Ada Ameh appeared in the 2003 film “Aki na Ukwa” with Amaechi Muonagor, Chinedu Ikedieze, and Osita Iheme. She portrayed Gladys in the comedic films.

Ada Ameh continued her remarkable career by appearing in the hit TV show “The Johnsons” in 2016.

Ada Ameh credits Zeb Ejiro with bringing out her talent and helping her achieve success in the film industry.

She originally intended to become a doctor or a singer, but she ended herself in front of the camera in “Domitila” playing the role of “Anita.”

She was a newbie back then, and Pat Okiri and Basorge taught her how to read scripts.

 

Ada Ameh, throughout her career, has been nominated for various awards which include;   Best Actress in Comedy – City People Entertainment Awards,

Most Promising Actress in Nigeria – Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, Best Comic Act to Watch – Africa Movie Academy Awards.

Before 2020, the actress lost six of her siblings and After years of struggling with mental health.

The actress had few weeks ago, opened up about her mental health challenges after losing some family members.

Speaking in a Television programme, she had said: “Everything is going to be fine. I have an issue right now, and it’s taking my life. I will not die. We will get over it.”

She started battling with ill-health and her condition deteriorated after losing another sister in March 2022.

The actress died in Warri, Delta State, around 11pm on 17th Sunday July 2022 thr actress died according to the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas.
