Boris Signs Off Final PMQs With ‘Hasta la vista, baby’

Boris Johnson finished off his final Prime Minister’s Questions with a tribute to the Terminator.

Reflecting on his three years as PM, he told MPs: ‘We’ve helped, I’ve helped, get this country through a pandemic and help save another country from barbarism.

‘And frankly, that’s enough to be going on. Mission – largely accomplished. For now.’

He concluded by saying, “Hasta la vista, baby,” to the laughter and applause of the tory lawmakers.

Standing ovations were given to the departing prime minister on his side of the chamber, but not everyone enjoyed his farewell remarks.

Notably, Theresa May, his predecessor, who took a while to stand up and didn’t clap.

People in the public will have been fearing or hoping that he would throw in a “I’ll be back” for good measure because he is a polarizing character in politics.

However, even he would find it difficult to maintain that stance following an indiscreet departure as a result of misleading the public on a sexual assault scandal involving his deputy chief whip.

But he has deceived the public on other occasions while maintaining his position, most notably during the Partygate incident, so who knows.

When asked if Mr Johnson’s homage to Arnold Schwarzenegger was his way of hinting at a comeback, his press secretary replied: ‘That was his way of saying farewell to his colleagues.’

Asked he if has any plans, if offered, to go to the House of Lords, she said: ‘I think that’s purely hypothetical.’

While Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer wished Mr Johnson ‘all the best for the future’ he still had a few not so flattering things to say about his premiership.

‘Inflation is up again this morning and millions are struggling with a cost of living crisis, and he’s decided to come down from his gold wallpapered bunker for one last time to tell us that everything’s fine,’ he said.

Mr Johnson compared his opponent to a ‘pointless human bollard’ and said that ‘every time something needs to be done’, Labour ‘try to oppose it’.

Despite his resignation as prime minister, Mr. Johnson will continue in his capacity as interim leader until September, when a new Conservative Party leader will be chosen.
