Electricity Workers Begins Strike On Wednesday

There are signs that the country’s electricity supply problem could get worse starting on Wednesday, as Organized Labour has ordered power sector employees to stop working and go on an indefinite strike over outstanding labor disputes with the Transmission Company of Nigeria, or TCN.

The disgruntled employees are set to picket the TCN national headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday under the auspices of the National Union of Electricity Employees, or NUEE, as a prelude to the strike.

The Union instructed Senior Assistant General Secretaries and Zonal Organising Secretaries to achieve complete compliance in a circular from NUEE General Secretary Joe Ajaero, headed “Call for Action,” dated August 15, 2022.
