Manchester United To Close Deal For Brighton Midfielder, Moises Caicedo

After failing to close agreements for a number of other summer targets, Manchester United has been linked with a move for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Although Manchester United has not yet made a formal offer for the midfielder, Moises Caicedo has previously expressed his desire to join the club.

The Ecuadorian international, who has performed well for Brighton & Hove Albion, has been linked with a move to United. In 2020, they had the chance to sign the young player, but they backed out of a deal that would have cost them less than £5 million.

Caicedo has been performing admirably for Graham Potter’s team this year, earning a starting spot after Yves Bissouma’s transfer to Tottenham Hotspur. However, if United pay the Seagulls’ demand price, it might be simpler for them to handle the personal terms.

“My dream is to play for Manchester United because I like English football.,” Caicedo said in December 2020, as reported at the time by OneFootball. “The pace is very high, and Manchester United is my favourite club.

“I always remain with my feet on the ground because I’ve got my family behind me, always supporting me, giving me advice,” he continued. Caicedo’s family are rumoured to also be United supporters.

Following a breakthrough season for Independente del Valle in which he scored six goals, including two in the Copa Libertadores, Caicedo made these remarks. He also played for Ecuador’s senior national team for the first time in a 2020 World Cup qualifier against Uruguay.

The links to Caicedo come as United’s attempt to sign Adrien Rabiot appears to have failed. The Juventus midfielder was going to cost around £15 million, but a deal reportedly fell through due to personal issues.

In an effort to push the agreement through, football director John Murtough traveled to Turin, but Rabiot’s salary demands proved to be too high. Now that the plug has been pulled, the search for a midfielder is on-going.

After retracting their initial offer for the Dutch international, United will need to come back with a fresh offer for Frenkie de Jong. However, given his other options, the Barcelona player might end up costing the team as much as £70 million. It is also unknown whether he would even consider the move.

Although Real Madrid bolstered their midfield ranks this summer with the addition of Aurelien Tchouameni, Casemiro has also emerged as a possibility. However, it is not believed that Real Madrid is in the market to sell. Contrary to the other targets, Caicedo has Premier League experience and has already shown his love for the team, which may still have an impact on certain top-level decisions.
