Man United Is On Par With Newcastle- Paul Merson

Paul Merson, a former England and Arsenal player, believes Manchester United should be compared to clubs like Newcastle United and other mid-table teams rather than being considered a top-four team.

Since Alex Ferguson left, United has changed significantly, and throughout that time, seven managers have been hired and fired. Erik ten Hag is the newest person on their “list of hires.”

Ten Hag had a strong resume when he joined the team, and it was expected that he would perform well right away. However, after losing an embarrassing 4-0 match to Brentford, Ten Hag’s second straight Premier League loss, it is starting to seem like a very tall order.

United is currently dead last in the league, and Merson finds it difficult to put the Old Trafford team on the same level as teams like city rivals Manchester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool.

When the Sky Sports analyst added that United should be more worried about losing the Portuguese to Newcastle than Chelsea, he was replying to a question on whether Chelsea is the ideal fit for Cristiano Ronaldo.

“They’re not top four, Man United. They’re a million miles off. They’re not going to get in the top four. I mean they’ve got to be making sure they don’t sell [Ronaldo] to Newcastle,” Merson said when asked if Manchester United should be scared of selling Ronaldo to a rival like Chelsea.

Chelsea owner, Todd Boehly has reportedly renewed his chase of Ronaldo, despite club coach Thomas Tuchel thinking the player will be an unwanted distraction who will not even fit into his style of play.
