A day prior, Liverpool destroyed Bournemouth by the same score in the Premier League of England.
The outcome at Tannadice Park was on par with Celtic’s 9-0 victory against Aberdeen in the 2010–11 season, and also surpassed their previous 8–1 victory at Dunfermline Athletic in the 2005–06 campaign as the largest away victory in the history of the competition.
According to Sky Sports, Celtic scored six goals, with three coming from Israeli winger Liel Abada and three from Japanese attacker Kyogo Furuhashi in the first half.
In the first period’s extra time, Furuhashi scored his third goal, and Portuguese winger Jota added another to make it 4-0 at the break.
Josip Juranovic, Carl Starfelt, and Abada’s triple finished off the rout.
Rangers were passed by Ange Postecoglou’s team for the top spot in the standings with 15 points from five games.
