Kebbi Flood Destroys 1000 Homes And Claims Two Lives

No fewer than 1000 homes were damaged by a devastating flash flood in at least six local government areas in Kebbi State.

The regions of Birnin Kebbi, Jega, Shanga, Koko/Besse, Ngaski, and Arewa local councils are affected.

Alhaji Abbas Rabiu Kamba, the acting executive director of Kebbi state emergency management agency (SEMA), reported that two people were killed and at least 300 homes were destroyed in Jega local government due to the flash flood, while in Shanga local government at least 307 homes were destroyed in the villages of Yar Besse, Dugu tsohowa, Tungar tsamiya, and Hundege.

He said that an unspecified number of flooded homes in the local governments of Arewa and Ngaski had been reported to the organization by the victims.

The affected local governments in Kebbi have been promised relief supplies, but no assistance has yet been provided to the victims. On the other hand, assessments were conducted by representatives of the State emergency management agency (SEMA) and the National emergency management agency (NEMA) on the spot.

Kamba urged residents of the State, especially those who live near rivers, to leave the area. He also urged others to immediately report emergencies to the agency so that victims could be evacuated to safer locations.
