Ghana Gains Spot In CHAN After Beating Super Eagles With Penalties
Ghana’s Black Galaxies have earned a spot in the 2019 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), which will be held in Algeria.
Nigeria overcame a two-goal deficit in the opening leg, forcing Ghana to secure their qualifying via penalties.
At the Moshood Abiola Stadium, the Super Eagles B put on a valiant performance. Goals from Zulkifilu Mohammed in the 76th minute and Chijioke Akuneto in the 94th minute forced a penalty shootout, where Ghana defeated Nigeria 5-4.
Ghana will participate in CHAN again after missing the previous three seasons.
This will be the second time this year that Ghana prevents the national team of Nigeria from entering a significant competition.
The Super Eagles were denied a ticket to the World Cup match in December in Qatar by the Black Stars of Ghana in March.
