The dates of the Champions League group stages have had to be changed as a result of the winter World Cup.

The beginning of the 2022 World Cup is scheduled for November 20, while the conclusion is scheduled for December 18. The Champions League will not clash with this event, thanks to changes made by UEFA, the entity that oversees European football.

For the first time ever, FIFA’s premier international competition will take place in the middle of a European season rather than at the end, during the customary June-July period.

What changes has UEFA made to the schedule, how will players get to that storied stadium in Turkey, and when will each round of the competition be played? You can get all the information you need about GOAL right here.

What are the changes in the group stage schedule of the 2022-23 Champions League?

The UEFA Champions League group stage draw took done on August 25, and the first matches in the group stage will begin on September 6/7, one week sooner than usual. The first gameday of the 2021–22 season was on September 15.

The second matchday will be on September 13/14, one week after the first, and each team will play three times in October. The third round of group stage matches will take place on October 4/5, followed by the fourth on October 11/12 and the fifth on October 25/26. On November 1 and 2, there will be one last matchday.

The group stages will be wrapped up more than a month earlier than usual and well before the players head out for international duty. In the previous campaign the final matchday was played on December 7/8.

The Round of 16 draw will take place on November 7.
