Real Madrid FC Honours Wayne Brabender
The honor recognizes the Real Madrid legend’s professional and personal accomplishments.
Wayne Brabender, a former Real Madrid basketball player and member of the Spanish national team, was honored by the Madrid community. With our team from 1967 to 1983, he captured four European Cups, four Intercontinental Cups, thirteen Leagues, and seven Copa del Reys. The celebration of the renowned American player’s life and career took hold at the Real Casa de Postas, the Community of Madrid’s administrative center. Along with Juan Carlos Sánchez-Lázaro, Director of Basketball, and other Real Madrid superstars like Emiliano Rodrguez, Luyk, Corbalán, and Romay, Brabender was joined by Emilio Butrágueo, Director of Institutional Relations.
The Madrid Regional Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Sport, Marta Rivera de la Cruz, praised the work of Brabender: “He had a remarkable career and was undoubtedly a key figure in national sport for more than 15 years”. She also drew attention to his teaching work: “Grassroots sport is a fundamental part of building champions, but, most importantly, of shaping people. I’m sure that his students at Aristos School must have been very proud to have had a sports star sharing his experience with them, and even prouder to have been able to appreciate Wayne’s human qualities”.
