How to register for your PVC online in 5 simple steps

Touchaheart Nigeria brings you details of how to register for your Permanent Voters Card online in 5 simple steps.

On February 25, 2023, general elections in Nigeria will start. About 20 million Nigerians have turned 18 since the 2019 elections, making them eligible to vote. Although every Nigerian citizen is entitled to vote, practical challenges may make it difficult for them to exercise that privilege. But getting a Permanent Voters Card (PVC)—one of the most crucial phases in the voting process—can be done right now.

On election day, in order to cast a ballot, a voter must present a PVC issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). PVC registration in past elections was a laborious procedure that involved days of waiting in line. Now that INEC has established an online portal for this purpose, any Nigerian citizen with an internet connection can register a PVC independently. Voters can use the website to transfer their cards to another state or request that an existing card be reissued in addition to enrolling for a new PVC.

  • Step 1: Visit the INEC website:

To begin, go to the INEC registration portal and click “Get Started” and you will be taken to a new page with a list of services, Click on “New Voter Pre-registration” or click on the three lines above your righthand side, and a list of services will be presented to you, click on “New Voter Pre-registration”. Note that only those who have never registered their PVC before may choose this option. If your card is missing or you wish to change your information for a new card, there are alternative methods on the website.

Please be aware that you may only register once before we continue. After submitting your application, wait for confirmation before attempting to register again. If you do, your registration may be revoked because repeatedly registering is illegal.

  • Step 2: Create a portal account or login:

You must either log into your portal account or create one in order to access the registration form. Click “Submit” after entering your name, email address, phone number, and password. You should only provide an email address that you have access to because you will immediately get one to validate your account. If the email is nowhere to be seen, it may have ended up in your spam folder.

You should have mail from the INEC CVR Portal in your email app. To go back to the sign-in page you previously saw, open it and click the link inside. Click “Log In” once more, and this time, enter your email address and the password you just made. Following that, you will be taken to a Declaration page that asks you to attest that all of the information you are providing is true. Make sure you select “Yes” before moving further.

  • Step 3: Register

Note: At this point, if what shows on the website is the image above then it means Registration has ended or has not started its third and final phase but if you receive your verification email then you can continue with step 3.

Continue with this if registration is ongoing and you have received your e-mail:

You will be sent to the main registration form after the Declaration page.

The following details must be included on the form:

Name, birthdate, gender, occupation, residence, NIN, and nationality are considered to be biodata.

Additional details include academic level, a disability, and maiden name.

residence: home nation, state, local government area, or city.

birth information, including the LGA or city or country of birth.

Country of origin, state of origin, local government area (LGA) or city of residency, and place of origin (town or village)

Polling place: Details about the state, local government, and district where you intend to cast your vote.

There is space for supporting papers like your passport or national identity card at the bottom of the page. Although it is optional, this step makes it simpler to verify your identity, which speeds up the verification process. It also enables INEC to connect your database profile to other databases.

When you have this, click “Save and Continue” to be taken to a new page that contains a confirmation that your application has been successfully changed. If you do not receive this confirmation, you can view the status of your application by clicking on the three black lines in the top right corner of your screen.

The next step is to upload two clean close-up pictures of your face, one of which must show you smiling and the other with a neutral expression. Make sure the pictures are well-lit and clear. The next step is now ready for you to take.

  • Step 5: Schedule An Appointment

The last step is to set up a convenient appointment date to have your biometric data taken. Now that you know how to register for your PVC online, you may proceed to this stage.

Your height and fingerprints are two examples of your personal biometrics. You will find a form with a list of alternatives indicating the nearby locations where you can get your biometrics taken on this page.

The address you provided while filling up your biodata is used to get these alternatives. There are currently 811 biometrics collection centers across the country, and more are being built. Here is a list of every center organized by state.

The webpage also includes a schedule of your biometrics’ availability times. Choose the option that best suits your needs. The biometrics process takes around 30 minutes, and the officials are on time.

You can always reschedule using the INEC site if you forget your appointment’s date or time. Following your choice of time and date, you can submit your application.

You’re almost at the point where you can vote now. A temporary voters’ card (TVC), which serves as verification that you completed the voting process, will be given to you following your biometrics appointment. Keep it in a secure location. You will receive a call from INEC when the PVC is prepared, and you can pick it up at the same facility where you had your biometrics taken. It can take from one to three months to complete.

Note: In order to acquire the PVC, you must submit your TVC. You can reproduce your TVC using the internet portal if it goes missing. To access your form, all you have to do is enter your log-in information.
