Agbaminoja Speaks At Lagos Induction And Training Of 200 Beneficiaries With Gidi Creative Centre

 

The Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu Lagos administration in partnership with a capacity development initiative called Gidi Creative Centre (GCC), with its full-service creative agency, The Temple Company (TC), officially kicked-off an orientation ceremony on Tuesday at the Tayo Aderinokun Lecture Theatre, University of Lagos (UNILAG).

The event was the induction ceremony of the successful 200 beneficiaries of the tuition free training aimed at the youths residing in Lagos State, who wants to acquire creative knowledge.

Idris Olorunnimbe, Group Chief Executive Officer of The Temple Company and Director, Gidi Creative Centre welcomed all and sundry to the event. He disclosed that over 1000 applications were received after a call-out was made six weeks ago at an unveiling ceremony by Pharm. Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture (MTAC).

The creative sector initiative seeks to empower 200 youths through an 11-weeks training module across 10 skill areas: Filmmaking, Creative Writing, Animation 101, Audio Engineering and Music Production, Graphics Design, Multimedia-design, Film, and Screen Production Design, Project Management for Creative Professionals, Fashion Design and Media Studies.

He also added that, “After the training, there’s opportunity for beneficiaries as individuals or group to pitch and access funding from Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF). They can access grants or single digit loans to fund production for sale to content buyers as a way to earn income for themselves. There will be other opportunity for us to train more people because there’s a major deficit in content production.”

The Executive Secretary/CEO of the Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board (LSFVCB), Mrs Adebukola Agbaminoja was one of the spokepersons at the induction ceremony.

She said, “Presently, we are partnering with Gidi Creative Centre to train 200 beneficiaries in various capacities as sponsored by the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Creative Industry Initiative (LACII).
This was created by Mr. Governor to empower the industry.”

“We have also partnered with other Academies like: Ebonylife Creative Academy, Del-York Creative Academy and Africa Film Academy. The students have emerged from these trainings to screen and showcase within and outside Nigeria, these are verifiable indices and this is why we are encouraged to do more.”

While addressing the beneficiaries, she also admonished them with encouraging words; “…We look forward to seeing your arts, the world is waiting for you, do not take this privilege for granted. Other people want to seat where you are but you are ones sitting there, that means you are special, don’t take it for granted.”
“You’re part of those we are looking forward to see, part of those that will change the narratives of this industry. I believe in you and I want to believe, you believe in yourselves.”

At the orientation ceremony, the young participants were charged to fully maximize the opportunity presented by Gidi Creative Centre to up-skill their talent and gain requisite capacity to excel as entrepreneurs.

Recall that Pharm. Akinbile-Yusuf said at the unveiling ceremony that; “The most important thing that has brought together The Temple Company, facilitators of Gidi Creative Centre, and Lagos State Government together to forge this partnership is a common goal to equip the young people of Lagos to be the best they can be within the creative industry.”

The ceremony was well-attended by Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, officials of Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board and Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF).
