447 Nigerians, including Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Works and Housing, have received national honours from President Muhammadu Buhari.
Tuesday’s National Honours Award Investiture ceremony at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja honored both Nigerians and foreigners who had excelled in their respective fields and contributed to the growth of the country.
Okonjo-Iweala, Hon. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, and Hon. Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, the present and former Chief Justices of Nigeria (CJN), respectively, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, and eminent diplomat Professor Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, are the recipients of the honorary title of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).
Gbajabiamila, Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan, Former Speaker Yakubu Dogara, Justice Kudirat M. Kekere-Ekun, Justice Musa Dattijo Muhammad, Justice Monica Bolna’an, and Donghan Mansem are all Nigerians who have been awarded the title of Commander of the Order
Ifeanyi Okowa, the governor of Delta State and vice presidential candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), is prominent among those who have received the Commander of the Order of Niger (CON) award.
