President Muhammadu Buhari joined other international leaders on Monday in congratulating Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who was just elected president of Brazil after a bitterly contested runoff election.

Buhari commended the new leader for staging an incredible comeback after leaving power and serving a jail sentence, according to a statement made on Monday in Abuja by the President’s media assistant, Malam Garba Shehu.
Buhari expressed his optimism that Lula’s presidency would further improve the already strong ties between Brazil and Nigeria.
