The founder of the esteemed AMAA Awards and one of the foundational figures in Nigeria’s entertainment sector, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe is dead.
According to reports, she passed away at St. Nicolas Hospital in Lagos after falling into a coma on Saturday.
Famous filmmaker Zik Zulu revealed the news although colleagues and close friends, some of whom saw her in the hospital, refused to believe it, insisting that she was only in the ICU.
“Our President, Peace, has passed. As of Saturday, she was reported to be in a coma at Saint Nicholas. But now her family has confirmed her transition. May the memory of her life be a blessing. Rest in peace, dear Peace, he writes on a Nollywood platform.
Even though the family tried to be polite with the announcement, award-winning producer Obi Emelonye also acknowledged her passing on his social media accounts.
The hardworking woman’s contributions to the industry cannot be overstated, and she will be recognized as one of those who helped create the new Nollywood.
