In Pakistan Mosque, Bomb Blast kills 59 people, leaves 157 dead

On January 30, a suicide bomber detonated explosives inside a mosque in northwest Pakistan, leaving at least 59 people dead and 157 others injured.

 

In Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan, the explosion took place outside a mosque close to police stations, not far from the nation’s border with Afghanistan.

When the suicide bomber attacked, there were allegedly more than 150 people praying, and the explosion caused the roof to collapse.

The Pakistan Taliban, known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, or TTP, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Among those killed were at least 33 police officers.

It is unclear, according to a Reuters report, how the bomber was able to enter the walled compound housing the police headquarters in the northwest city of Peshawar, which is situated in a high-security area with other governmental structures.

Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, denounced the bombing while he was on the scene in Peshawar on Monday. He also urged people to give blood in order to save the lives of the injured.

The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad also issued a statement condemning the “horrific attack.”
