Whitney Adeniran: Lagos shuts Chrisland school

In response to the death of a pupil, the Lagos government ordered the closure of a Chrisland School.

On February 9, Whitney Adeniran, an Opebi Ikeja branch student of Chrisland, passed away while participating in a sporting event.

As the deceased’s family persisted in scrutinizing the school, Blessing, the deceased’s mother, accused Chrisland of incompetence.

She claimed that because the school had not planned for an emergency at the event, first aid was not provided.

Despite the doctor’s suggestion of a cardiac arrest, the mother insisted the girl had no history of heart disease.

The school is currently shuttered while an investigation is conducted, according to Lagos education commissioner Fol asade Adefisayo.

“We also note the impact of this unfortunate event on family, friends, and acquaintance of Whitney and call for calm as we assure that no effort will be spared in investigating the incident”, the commissioner stated.

Earlier while reacting to public criticism following the 12-year-old student’s death, the management at Chrisland School said Whitney had reported “not-too-buoyant” health on January 20, contrary to claims by her parents.

Due to proximity issues, the school claimed it chose to take Whitney to a health center rather than a hospital.

Chrisland pointed out that she slouched in public while denying any suspicion of foul play in the death case.

“Our immediate response was to take advantage of proximity by identifying the nearest medical facility to take her to, where the doctor on duty administered oxygen and every aid possible to her,” the institution had added.
