Methodist bishop explains motive for running for Abia governorship election

The Methodist bishop explains why he is running for governor of Abia.
Bishop Sunday Onuoha, the African Democratic Congress Governorship Candidate in Abia, has stated that he entered the race to restore the state's lost glory.

The African Democratic Congress Governorship Candidate in Abia, Bishop Sunday Onuoha has stated that he entered the race to restore the state’s lost glory.

Onuoha stated this on Friday, when he paid a formal visit to the Traditional Ruler of Ogbor Ancient Kingdom, near Aba, Eze Ukaegbu Egege, to inform him of his ambition and seek his blessing.

He expressed concern about the state’s widespread poverty and the citizens’ suffering.

He stated that the state of Aba’s infrastructure and the dilapidation of its major markets were unacceptable to him.

“People ask me why I joined the governorship race as a clergyman,” said Onuoha, a Bishop of the Methodist Church of Nigeria.

“Of course, I entered the governorship race because of Abia’s appalling state.

“Our people are going through a terrible period.

“People are suffering, and there is deplorable poverty everywhere.

“Salaries and pensions are not paid and people are living in serious despair.

“It is now a source of embarrassment to publicly admit one is from Abia, especially when traveling to other states of the federation.”

The cleric promised to address the critical issues of poverty, the dilapidation of infrastructure and gross underdevelopment,” if elected.

He also promised that workers and retirees would receive their salaries and pensions on time.

The traditional ruler, who received the cleric and members of his entourage in his palace, led some of his cabinet members in prayer for his election victory.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the ADC governorship candidate went on a campaign tour of Isialangwa North and South, as well as Aba North and South Local Government Areas.

He made strategic stops, particularly at major markets, where he addressed traders about his manifesto to transform the state and make life more meaningful for the citizenry.
