Imo REC can't hold a legitimate Assembly election - PDP
OWERRI (Owerri) - The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has stated that it has no confidence that the state's Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof Sylvia Agu, will conduct a credible House of Assembly election on Saturday, March 11, 2023.

OWERRI (Owerri) – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has stated that it has no confidence that the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof Sylvia Agu, will conduct a credible House of Assembly election on Saturday, March 11, 2023.

According to a statement issued by the party’s state Publicity Secretary, Collins Opurozor, participating in any electoral contest in the state and expecting it to be fair and transparent is a mirage.

The party claimed that the REC was compromised and demanded his removal and prosecution.

The PDP claimed that results were fabricated in areas where elections did not take place during the state’s presidential and National Assembly elections.

“The first step was to create results for areas where elections did not take place. Elections did not take place in the wards of Ihube, Agbobu, Umuowaibe, Aku, Umulolo, Ogii, and Amuro in Okigwe L.G.A. There were no elections in about 88 polling units in Mbaitoli L.G.A., while there were no elections in two polling units in Owerri West and three polling units in Owerri Municipal.

“This means that elections for the Owerri Senatorial District were never held at polling units, with the total number of collected PVCs estimated to be around 41,339. Despite this, INEC went ahead and declared someone Senator-Elect despite the fact that the margin of victory between the so-called winner and the second person was less than 13,000 votes. “This is outrageous,” reads the statement.
